Our story
Custom Towing & Transport is a father-and-son partnership, built on years of working side by side and learning the industry from the ground up.
After contracting in the towing and transport sector for nearly a decade, Steve and Chris Morgan chose to step out on their own to apply their experience in a way that reflected their values and approach.
Operating independently has allowed them to invest in specialised equipment and tools, expand their capability, and take on a wider range of jobs - always with a focus on safety, preparation, and doing the job properly.
MEET THE TEAM
STEVE MORGAN
With decades of experience across electrical trades, mechanical and marine work, vehicle recovery, and fault-finding on automotive, hybrid, and electric vehicles, Steve brings a deep technical understanding to everything he does. He is known for being methodical, reliable, and someone who identifies what needs to be done and gets on with it.
A defining part of Steve’s career has been his long-standing commitment to the emergency services. Over many years, he served his community as a Senior Firefighter, Coastguard Skipper and Senior Master, and St John Team Leader. These roles required leadership, sound judgement, and the ability to remain composed when people were under stress or at risk. Responding to emergencies on land and at sea shaped Steve’s people-first mindset and reinforced the importance of preparation, clear communication, and safety.
Based in Whitianga, Steve is family-focused and deeply connected to the local community. Outside of work, his interests include spending time with family, fishing, boating, motorsport, reading, and cooking. He values honesty, respect, and doing things properly, believing that how a job is done matters just as much as getting it done.
CHRIS MORGAN
Chris brings a strong mix of mechanical, civil, and heavy equipment experience, with a particular depth of knowledge in motorcycles. He previously worked for a motorcycle company in Auckland, where he developed a detailed understanding of bike mechanics, handling, and transport requirements - experience that continues to be invaluable when working with motorcycles today.
Alongside this, Chris has broad experience in commercial and civil earthworks, operating a wide range of heavy machinery including large trucks, trailers, and earthmoving equipment. His background includes involvement in major infrastructure projects such as the Southern Motorway, as well as local road construction. He has worked with contractors including A1 Whitianga Towing & Transport and Hopper Developments and holds all required licences for operating heavy vehicles and machinery.
Originally from Pauanui, Chris moved to Whitianga around ten years ago and has strong local ties to the area. Over the years, he has also picked up solid electrical and automotive knowledge, adding to his practical, hands-on skill set. Known for being capable, adaptable, and reliable, Chris brings a steady, experienced approach to every job he’s involved in.
